Ardell Luy: An MS in finance will severely constrain your career options. An MBA is much more versatile. An MBA from a great program would also be more respected by an employer. An MS is a bit more academic than an MBA, and you may get pigeon-holed in certain types of positions. To illustrate my point, we hired someone with an MS in finance as an Analyst in our investment banking group, and we usually hire MBAs for Associate positions. So there's a big difference in the perceived abilities of the two degrees, so choose carefully. There are certainly many bright people who get MS degrees (perhaps they are brighter than MBAs), but an MBA degree would be "more beneficial" to your career....Show more

Jill Thomer: MS- it's more rigorous, and will give you a better background if you ever decide to go on to a Phd.
