Is being a vegan hard?

Toshia Metzker: It depends on what you're doing now. If you're already staying away from non-vegan items (leather, cosmetics), then it's not so hard. If you're heavily dependent on cheese or eggs now, there may be a transition period. If you don't know the vegan options at restaurants, it'll be hard.Basically, just jump in and try your best for a transition, allow some stuff to pass, and do your best to be vegan without being 100%. As you observe your habits, modifications at restaurants, transition to vegan products, then you'll see how easy/hard it is. You don't have to do any research prior to attempting, just start and learn as you go.It took me about a month to transition. It's expensive if you rely on faux-foods, such as veganaise, soy milk, earth balance, soyrizo, daiya, etc. I'm not saying NEVER eat it, but learn to get your calcium from plant sources, new recipes that are naturally vegan, etc, and save the faux food for when you really miss a cheese sandwich. If y! ou're eating oats, rice, quinoa, legumes, salads, etc for the majority of your nutrition, then it's not hard. And take your b12 supplements. Just take it....Show more

Guy Bonamico: it's impossible. literally. i mean, just as an example, you are killing dust mites right now as you breath. so you come to terms with imperfection immediately, realize it's a journey and not a destination, and just set out to learn as much as you can and do as much good as you can for animals and the environment.people ought to read the whole response and not just the first 2 words before they rate an answer....Show more

Ardell Luy: for me if u ask being vegan is hard because we won't get everything here for being vegan but you can still become vegetarian instead of completely skipping meat and you can get the necessary requirements. vegan diet does not full fill everything but vegetarian diet does become an ovo or lacto veg instead you need to have a 300 mg/day cholesterol need and ! if you won't take any animal product you will not get it as we! can't get cholesterol from plants we do get fat but both are different so i suggest better be vegetarian...Show more

Kip Ockenfels: Nope, I hardly even need to think about it. You get used to it and you always end up with something nearby to eat. I never leave the house with a snack, whether it be dried fruit and nuts, a protein bar or maybe a little salad packed away.

Heidi Creselious: I'm vegan. It's not hard at all! I rarely eat meat. I just get protein from other foods.

Kaley Lappas: Well it depends on your faith as saying killing animals or eating them is wrong. But what is really bad is that you do not get all the proteins and things that your body needs if you're a vegan. I know you won't like it, but I suggest that you have a regular diet.

Frederic Engellant: It's a piece of cake, I'm a vegan every time I'm not eating.

Pam Rampadarat: No it isn't and it doesn't have to be expensive if you don't rely to much on fake meats, tofu and such! that can be really expensive. The hardest thing is other people who think you want their opinion, telling boring jokes over and over and think you are likely to release minks and throw paing on people....Show more

Lucrecia Laurito: Being vegan is one of the LEAST expensive diets. If you eat local and eat wild plants, you won't have to spend as much on groceries. It saves a TON of money that way.I only pay $6 to $8 on groceries every week. If I am skillful enough, I might even be able to cut that down to $0 per week.I'd normally spend 100 on groceries for myself a week. But unfortunately, you cannot eat totally free if you wild meat. There are many laws against that, and any laws you violate could end up you in prosecution for poaching wild animals. You might only be able to hunt during a certain season, for example. But to live year round, you need 12 months of successful hunting to eat like that, and only one season might mean starvation. Plants on the other hand rege! nerate themselves fully unless the root is taken out, and that means th! at laws are less strict on plants than animals. But otherwise if you want to eat meat, it means eating the meat from the store, which means it probably it comes from a hybridized cow, sheep, pig, or chicken- none of which are wild and it also means that it probably is fed with the wrong diet and injected with chemicals and antibiotics....Show more

Lia Argall: It all depends on what you consider "hard". It will take changing what you eat and what you where and what indistries/companies you support. For me, transitioning from vegetarianism to veganism meant changes to my life but I didn't see it as hard, it was just a shift in my my thinking.
