Should gambling be legalized ?

Clifford Riggleman: ---Advantages-----Creates mundane jobs for younger, less skilled workers-Creates an attraction and promotes tourism in the area.-Creates increase tax revenue from large payouts-Becomes a venue of entertainment for the local population.-----Disadvanatages-----I see no major disadvantages, but some side effects people may VIEW as negetive, or think are major problems i will list, i feel in reality these effects are very trivial, or not common-Creates problem gamblers-Ruins lives-Doesnt contribute to societyI feel that problem gamblers will gamble no mater what, however, the creation of a casino does not directly cause them to gamble, they may choose to gamble there, if they do they will be playing games with better odds than say, the lottery, and also, the casinos will if they feel a player is a problem gambler, bar them from playing. So this really isnt an issue.While peoples lives have been ruined financially by gambling, these peopel are few in numb! er, also, it is their own doing and a direct result of their own stupidity. Viewing society as a whole, it is better that these uneducated, less inteligent people be in poverty and not holding meaningfull positions in the world where there stupidity could effect decisions relevant to the rest fo the world.And lastly, some peopel argue that casinos do nothign for the world. and to this i say that the tax revenue collected form them will be spent as it is by the local government the casino is in. tax revenue generated by casinos is huge and as long as the local government spends the money wisely,l the casino is being productive by funding productivity....Show more

Moira Woodrow: I say yes. If the gov can place a tax so high on tobacco that the average person is forced to quit (even though it a better health thing to). And any blasted company that has a financial woe can get bailed out by the same government. Then again I SAY YES !!!!!...Show more
