Car Seat installation classes?

Booker Moros: I heard about it when my daughter was 2 months old and I went to have her carseat inspected. It was way too loose, the harness wasn't tight enough and the chest clip was too low. Since then I have researched everything I can find on carseat safety and how to keep my daughter safe in the car. Since auto accidents are the number one killer for ages 1-34, I want to keep her as safe as I can.She will be 3 in January, weighs 28lbs and is 36 inches tall. She is rearfacing in Britax Marathons in both cars.Next summer I am hoping to become a CPST (Child Passenger Safety Technician) through SafeKids and share my knowledge with parents.I also frequent several carseat message boards and try to keep up on new best practices and new seats that come on the market....Show more

Shandi Wedge: How did I hear about car seat safetly?I learned it in Lamaze classes and when I gave birth at the hospital, the nurses wouldn't allow the baby to leave the hospital without in! specting the car seat, which I thought was a great idea.

Lucien Hellerman: I have always been curious as to car seat installation. I do not have kids of my own, but I am a proud aunt and baby-sat for a local family for a year and a half. It shocked me that the family I baby-sat for didn't have their kids properly restrained! And the cherry on top was they were/are foster parents!! They had their two year old in a booster seat! When I took them places, I made sure they were in proper seats because if something happened, I wouldn't want it to be because of a careless error on my part. It angers me that parents do not take the time to find the proper seats for their kids' ages. It might not be a lack of information...it may simply be the parents have the "it won't happen to me" mentality and don't take the time to do things the right way, even though their kids' lives are at stake!...Show more

Betsey Muehlbach: I remember seeing a special on TV where about half of ! the car seats were installed incorrectly. They had a police of! ficer pulling over people and checking out their car seats. I had mine installed by a trained officer who then showed me how to do it and had me give it a try. There are also classes offered by some Babies 'R' Us. There's a lot about babies we aren't prepared for. I wasn't prepared for how hard bfing would be. I kept thinking it was natural so it must be easy. There are plenty of guidebooks on parenting, but it's never enough information, is it? Thanks for the link, btw! My heart goes out to the parents of that little angel....Show more
